This Privacy Policy describes how NaijaMart collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use our platform. Please read it carefully. By using NaijaMart, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Introduction

NaijaMart.com ("NaijaMart", "we", "us", or "our") is Nigeria's #1 free online classified marketplace, operated by NaijaMart Limited, a company incorporated in Nigeria. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and applicable laws.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our website (naijamart.com), mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Platform"). By using our Platform, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@naijamart.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

Account InformationWhen you register, we collect your name, email address, phone number, password (hashed), profile photo, and location (state/city). If you register via Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.
Identity VerificationFor phone verification, we collect your mobile number and validate it via Firebase Phone Authentication or OTP SMS. For BVN verification (required for escrow payouts), we use a licensed third-party service to verify your Bank Verification Number — we do not store your BVN.
Listings & TransactionsWhen you post a listing, we collect listing details including title, description, price, photos, category, and location. For escrow transactions, we collect payment information (processed via Paystack), delivery addresses, and transaction history.
Usage & Device DataWe automatically collect IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages visited, time spent, and referring URLs. This data is used to improve our service and detect fraud.
AI-Generated DataWhen you use our AI tools (image analysis, voice listing, price suggestions), we process the content you submit — images, voice recordings, or text — to generate results. This data is processed via Anthropic's Claude API and is not stored beyond the session.
CommunicationsIf you contact our support team, we keep records of that correspondence to help resolve issues and improve our service.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

**Service Delivery:** To create and manage your account, display your listings, facilitate buyer-seller communications, process escrow transactions, and deliver the features of the Platform.

**Verification & Security:** To verify your identity, prevent fraud, detect suspicious activity, and enforce our Terms & Conditions. Phone verification is required for posting listings. BVN verification is required only for sellers requesting escrow payouts.

**Payments:** We use Paystack to process all payments. Your payment card or bank details are handled directly by Paystack and are not stored on NaijaMart servers. We receive transaction confirmation and reference numbers only.

**Communications:** We use Resend (email service) to send account notifications, transaction alerts, verification emails, and marketing communications (with your consent). You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

**AI Features:** We use Anthropic's Claude API to power our AI listing tools (auto-title generation, image analysis, voice-to-listing, price analysis). Your content is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing.

**Analytics & Improvement:** We analyse usage patterns to improve the Platform, fix bugs, and develop new features. This analysis uses aggregated and anonymised data where possible.

**Legal Compliance:** We process data where required by Nigerian law, including for tax reporting and law enforcement requests.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only in these circumstances:

**With Other Users:** Your public profile (name, avatar, location) and listing details are visible to all users. In an escrow transaction, the counterparty's name and relevant contact details are shared between buyer and seller.

**Service Providers:** We share data with trusted third-party providers who help us operate the Platform: — Paystack (payment processing) — Resend (transactional email) — Firebase / Google (phone authentication, analytics) — Anthropic (AI features) — Vultr (cloud hosting and object storage — Johannesburg, South Africa)

All service providers are contractually required to protect your data and may only use it to provide services to NaijaMart.

**Legal Requirements:** We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of NaijaMart, our users, or the public.

**Business Transfers:** If NaijaMart merges with or is acquired by another entity, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you in advance.

5. Data Storage & Security

Where We Store Your DataYour data is stored on Vultr cloud servers located in Johannesburg, South Africa. This location is chosen to minimise latency for Nigerian users while maintaining data within the African continent. Media files (listing photos, profile pictures, cover images) are stored in Vultr Object Storage.
How Long We Keep Your Data— Active account data: retained for the lifetime of your account — Listing data: retained for 2 years after a listing is closed or deleted — Transaction records: retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance — Login logs and security data: retained for 90 days — Deleted accounts: data anonymised within 30 days of deletion request (except where retention is required by law)
Security MeasuresWe implement industry-standard security measures including: — HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit — Bcrypt hashing for passwords — Laravel Sanctum token-based authentication — Regular security audits — Restricted access to production databases

Despite these measures, no system is 100% secure. We will notify you promptly of any data breach that affects your personal information.
